Ways to Consume Cannabis

There are many ways to consume cannabis, each with different onset times, durations, and experiences.

Inhalation

Smoking is the most traditional method. Flower is burned and the smoke is inhaled. Onset is almost immediate (1-3 minutes), and effects typically last 1-3 hours.

Vaporizing heats cannabis to release cannabinoids without combustion. This produces vapor instead of smoke, which many consider easier on the lungs. Onset is similar to smoking.

Oral

Edibles are foods or drinks infused with cannabis. They must be processed by the digestive system, so onset is slower (30 minutes to 2 hours). However, effects can last 4-8 hours and feel more intense. Start low and go slow.

Tinctures are liquid cannabis extracts placed under the tongue. Sublingual absorption provides faster onset than edibles (15-45 minutes) with effects lasting 2-4 hours.

Capsules work like edibles but with precise dosing in pill form.

Topical

Topicals are creams, balms, and lotions infused with cannabis. Applied directly to the skin, they provide localized relief without psychoactive effects (they don't cross the blood-brain barrier).

Transdermal patches are a special case — they deliver cannabinoids through the skin into the bloodstream and can produce systemic effects.

Concentrates

Concentrates are highly potent cannabis extracts (60-90%+ THC). Forms include wax, shatter, budder, rosin, and live resin. They're consumed via dabbing or vaporizing. Not recommended for beginners due to high potency.

Choosing a Method

Your choice depends on your goals, experience level, and preferences. Beginners should start with low-dose edibles or flower with moderate THC levels.
