Tolerance & T-Breaks

What is Cannabis Tolerance?
With regular use, your body adapts to cannabis. CB1 receptors become less responsive (downregulation), meaning you need more to achieve the same effects. This is tolerance.
Signs of High Tolerance
- Needing larger doses for the same effects
- Effects wearing off faster
- Not feeling much from products that used to work
- Spending more money on cannabis
Tolerance Breaks (T-Breaks)
A tolerance break is a period of abstaining from cannabis to allow your endocannabinoid system to reset.
How long?
- 48 hours: Noticeable sensitivity increase
- 1 week: Significant receptor recovery
- 2-4 weeks: Near-complete receptor reset
- Research shows CB1 receptors begin recovering within 2 days and largely normalize within 4 weeks
Making T-Breaks Easier
- Set a clear end date (makes it psychologically easier)
- Stay busy with activities you enjoy
- Exercise regularly (releases natural endocannabinoids)
- Avoid triggers and situations where you'd normally consume
- Consider CBD-only products during the break (CBD doesn't build THC tolerance)
- Use BudWiz's tolerance tracking to monitor your progress
Moderation Strategies
If a full T-break isn't feasible:
- Reduce your dose by 50%
- Skip days (consume every other day)
- Use lower-THC products
- Try different consumption methods
- Consume only in the evening rather than all day
